The Happy Prince review - Wilde at heart

Rupert Everett's spirited and humane homage to Oscar is worth the long wait

'shameless petulance, self-regard and cruelty of an angelic devil' ... poor old Lord Alfred Douglas - he can't catch a break as far as posterity is concerned with all the negatives in Wilde's life being laid at his door, even by those whose only knowledge of him is through representations in the cinema. Personally, I thought Jude Law was just 'Jude Law' in the role (Jude Law in 'high whine' mode as one critic wrote at the time), while Morgan delivers a much more interesting and multi-faceted performance, in so far as the script allows.
