Comedians like other figures in the arts are used to being asked to support worthy causes. It’s not often those worthy causes are in the arts themselves.

That has not stopped Simon Amstell, the former presenter Never Mind the Buzzcocks and author of the sitcom Grandma’s House [1] with no professional involvement of note in the theatre, from putting getting behind young playwrights. Specifically, he is to do a special one-off performance of his show Numb at the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs at the Royal Court on Sunday 10 June at 8pm, for which all proceeds go towards the Royal Court’s Young Writers Programme. Tickets cost £20 or £25 and can be booked on the Royal Court website [2].
