Cannes 2012: Terence Davies to shoot Deyn and Mullan

It has been announced in Cannes that Terence Davies’s next film will star Peter Mullan and the model turned actress Agyness Deyn.

Sunset Song is based on the 1932 novel by Lewis Grassic Gibbon. Set in the early 20th century on a farm in the far north of Scotland, it tells of a young woman who is dealt a full house of bad cards when her mother commits suicide, leaving her in charge of the farm and fending off the incestuous advances of her stroke-victim father. No sooner does she find love than her husband is heading off to the Trenches.

Mullan was most recently acclaimed for his performance in Tyrannosaur [1], while Deyn earned respectable notices for her stage acting debut in Harry Burton’s production of The Leisure Society at the Trafalgar Studios. Davies’s most recent film, a version of Terence Rattigan’s The Deep Blue Sea [2] starring Rachel Weisz, Simon Russell Beale and Tom Hiddleston, met with a mixed reception.
