Tate Modern’s Edvard Munch exhibition, The Modern Eye, opens on 28 June. Complementing this, the new London gallery ArtEco’s inaugural exhibition After Munch showcases three contemporary Norwegian artists inspired by Munch. Next year, the 150th anniversary of Munch’s birth, will be "Munch year" in Norway.
After Munch features Unni Askeland, Markus Brendmoe and Crispin Gurholt.
Askeland will be exhibiting her series “Captain. My Captain”, based on her father's death. Brendmoe's acrylic and charcoal interpretation of Munch’s "The Scream" includes references to the London 7/7 bombings. Gurholt's photograph “Sunday 17.45” depicts a weekend afternoon that, seemingly, has gone very wrong.
After Munch is on from 29 June to 28 July at ArtEco Gallery, 533 Old York Road, London SW18 1TG.
