Competition: ELF CDs to be won

We're giving away a fantastic new release featuring horn, piano and flute

It’s competition time again. Last month we featured ELF’s Reflections, a new release on Nimbus showcasing the unusual and possibly even unique combination of horn, piano and flute. We have a number of copies of the CD to give away. All you need to do is answer the questions correctly and your name will go into the hat.

Reflections was reviewed by Graham Rickson as part of his regular Classical CDs Weekly column, but it is stretching it to describe the music as classical. In their interview with Jasper Rees the component members of ELF – pianist Geoff Eales, horn player Dave Lee and flautist Andy Findon - talked about the different musical influences that have gone into the pot, including Chick Corea, Nyman and Lloyd Webber. If you read the interview and review, you’ll find the answers to the following three questions which themselves reflect Reflections’ range of styles.

  1. Name two London orchestras of which Dave Lee has been principal horn.
  2. Who was pianist Geoff Eales’s professor of music in Cardiff?
  3. Which instrument did Andy Findon’s flute oust from the trio?

The competition is open until midnight on Thursday, 8 September. Send your answers to jasper.rees@theartsdesk.com, clearly marking the email in the subject filed as “ELF competition”. Please also include your address. The names of all entrants who answer correctly will go into a hat, and the first seven to be drawn will receive a copy of Reflections. Good luck.
