The Bridge out on DVD, but not just yet

The Bridge, yet another Scandinavian television drama which has been thrilling BBC Four viewers on Saturday nights for the past few weeks, concludes this weekend. Anyone anxious that they’ve no Scandy knowledge to bring to the water cooler need fear not. On Monday 21 May the DVD box set of the first series is out. See the new trailer below.

The Bridge’s opening episode features the discovery of a dead body placed neatly on the national border between Sweden and Denmark on the magnificent bridge connecting Malmö and Copenhagen. It’s no spoiler to reveal that the body is in fact the two halves of two bodies, one Danish, one Swedish, morbidly mirroring the first-time collaboration of Danish production company DR (who gave us The Killing and Borgen) and Swedish SVT (Wallander – not the one with K Branagh). It stars Sofia Helin as Swedish detective Saga Norén, whose forensic brilliance is not matched by social skills, and Kim Bodnia as rugged lived-in seen-it-all Danish gumshoe Martin Rohde.

In the mean time, viewers have two more episodes in the company of the Truth Terrorist.
