The rats of the city are forgotten and ignored. They spend their days hidden away in the sewers underground and only come up onto the streets in the middle of the night...
Written by young composer John Barber with a libretto by Hazel Gould, this is the story of the rats who steal a man’s shadow; the man who loses something that he never knew was there, and the shadow who is cut free for the very first time.
Working together with singers from Women sing East, our primary schools and members of The Sixteen, this piece has emerged from numerous composition and writing workshops.
Project supported by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, M&G Investments and Spitalfields Music’s New Music Commission Fund
