Richard Alston Dance Company’s spring tour takes the company’s 10 dancers to 17 theatres around the UK for 26 performances featuring 6 rep ertoire pieces and 1 world premiere. Repertoire: world premiere of Alston ’s Buzzing Round the Hunnisuccle, using the music of Japanese composer Jo Kondo. Also his The Devil in the Detail, a joyous and effervescent dance t o Scott Joplin’s rags; Shimmer using the evocative music of Ravel, with d elicate crystal-encrusted cobweb costumes by fashion designer Julien Macdon ald; Roughcut danced to Steve Reich’s New York and Electric Counterpoints ; Unfinished Business, choreographed to Mozart’s beautiful, lucid and flo wing K533; Lachrymae, set to the tender music of Benjamin Britten taking variations from a song by the medieval master John Dowland; Darknesse Visi ble, Alston’s most recent solo, to the music of Thomas Adès, also inspir ed by John Dowland. Madcap, Martin Lawrance’s choreography to the explosi ve music of Julia Wolfe, a dark and highly physical tour-de-force. The s eason culminates in a special event at The Barbican (Wed 29 May), part of the season Dancing Around Duchamp where the company will perform Merce Cunn ingham choreography.
