14-23 September, San Francisco Ballet has a worldwide reputati
on for its vast repertory. Three programmes over two weeks present some of
its most popular works of recent years, including ballets by Royal Ballet
alumni Christopher Wheeldon and Ashley Page. Repertoire ranging from Wheeld
on’s full-throttle Number Nine, to Page’s mysterious and sensual Guide to
Strange Places, and from Morris’s witty play on male roles in Beaux to Pos
sokhov’s dramatic RAkU. Tomasson has made the brilliance and discipline of
Balanchine’s work part of the classical bedrock of SF Ballet and, in Mozar
t’s Divertimento No. 15 every featured dancer has the opportunity to shine.
