This year’s festival of Asian independent film begins with the UK premiere of Norwegian Wood, directed by Tran Anh Hung, adapted from the bestselling novel by Murakami, and starring Rinko Kikuchi (Oscar-nommed for Babel). It closes on 13 March with Au Revoir Taipei, debut feature of US-Taiwanese Arvin Chen. In between there are films and documentaries from Iran, Iraq, Kurdistan, Kyrgyzstan, Bhutan, Burma, India, Tibet, China, Japan, North and South Korea. On 8 March, the centenary of International Women's Day, there’s a screening of Woman of No Fear, a documentary on the Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung Sang Suu Kyi.
