Hosted by the family of the late director with the BFI, the third annual festival runs from 11 to 13 March. It includes a gala preview of The Eagle (released 25 March), an international programme of new short films plus shorts made by young islanders on the theme of ‘Comic Relief’, previews of films by first-time directors, screenings of Mingella-produced The Reader and Iris and a short programme of classic Italian cinema, including Fellini’s I Vitelloni and 8½. There is a concert by June Tabor, whose music featured in Minghella’s play Whale Music. Money raised will help fund a new weekly programme of singing therapy for people with dementia and support the screening and making of films on the island.
