A 20-year-old learns to readjust to his new life after a traumatic brain injury

Having sustained a traumatic head injury Simon Hales learns to get acquainted with his new brain
When Simon Hales, a 20-year-old university student, fell from a 20ft wall during a tipsy night out, nobody knew whether he would pull through. He'd suffered a horrific brain injury and would spend the next five weeks in a coma. Luckily, he did pull through, though nobody could recognise the newly awakened Simon from the old Simon. His mother told us that her son "evidently wasn’t Simon”. She loved him, she said, but “what I'm looking for is the son that I had to come back".

I am a student cosidering studying Speech and Language Therapy and watched this documetary last night, it was truly amazing! Simon is not only an inspiration but is full of courage and determination. The speech he gave at the end was particuarly moving! Everyone should watch this!

I also have a brain injury due to a horrific RTA and can relate to what Simon is going through. Although I have no memory of the accident or for several months afterwards. watching the documentary has helped me to see and understand what I must have been like. It has also helped my family as they can see the different stages that people with brain injuries go through.I also fixated on one of my dogs and was nasty to him. We would like to wish Simon a good recovery. I do hope channel 4 follow his progress.

Hi there.. I'm one of Simons closest Friends actually. Obviously I absolutely love the show. If you want to see how he is getting on now, there is a facebook group - Wake Up Simon . Thanks for the support Ben
