Richard Ayoade’s first feature as a director was the warmly received adaptation of Joe Dunthorne’s debut novel Submarine. For his next outing, he has kept some of the elements from the first film: principally, the actors Yasmin Paige and Noah Taylor.

But to the original cocktail there are some new ingredients. The Double is an updating of the novella by Dostoevsky about a timid man whose life is taken over by a more confident man who happens to be his exact physical double. It stars Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre) and Wallace Shawn, the brainiac playwright who also voices the dinosaur in the Toy Story films. The Double starts shooting on 20 May.
