Blood and guts in a visionary staging of Raskatov's Bulgakov-based opera

Comments

Having seen the first performance, I have mixed feelings. A five star show for the play and staging, a one for the music. It was superb theatre, but the music got in the way. I'm not some old diehard who enjoys opera for the good tunes (I do enjoy Janacek operas), but the music is not doing its job when it is not adding anything to the show and you have to rely on the titles to find out what some characters are saying, or for cheap laughs from the swear words.
