Registrar
With external funding from Esmee Fairbairn, we are very pleased to be able to create two new positions for mima.
mima, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art is an educational and cultural institution. mima presents a changing programme of exhibitions across its galleries covering the beginnings of 20th century art to the present day, bringing the best to Middlesbrough and presenting our regions best to the rest of the world. mima exhibits and collects both fine art and craft, and is unique in the UK in that it presents the two side by side. This includes a range of highly established artists, emerging artists, and regional, national and international artists.
Additional to traditional Registrar duties around collection care and exhibition planning, a key responsibility of this role will be the implementation of eMuseum to launch the collection online, accessible by the wider public. The postholder will also be expected to explore the potential of building income generation targets in to the position. This would be focussed around pro-active marketing of collection loans to museums and corporate partners.
mima is currently funded by Middlesbrough Council and Arts Council and forms part of Middlesbrough Museums & Galleries service, alongside the Dorman Museum and the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. The Registrar post will be positioned within the curatorial team, working alongside the Senior curator and curator, with responsibility to the Senior Curator.
